Teak outdoor dining table

Our Story

I didn’t set out to start a wood care company. I set out to protect a teak dining table that cost more than my first car, and I couldn’t find a single product I trusted to do it properly.

Every bottle on the market made the same promises. UV protection. Water resistance. Long-lasting finish. But when I started looking at what was actually inside them, reading the safety data sheets, analyzing the formulas, tracing the chemistry, what I found was disappointing. Forty-year-old formulas repackaged under modern labels. Basic acrylic polymers with no serious UV stabilization. Linseed-based teak oils that oxidize indefinitely and feed the exact mold they claim to prevent. Products with safety data sheets that disclose zero ingredients. One leading brand’s own manual warns that their product is permanently destroyed if it freezes, and they’ve been selling it to boat owners in cold climates for decades.

I’m a formulator by nature. When I can’t find what I need, I build it.

So I started over. I asked a simple question, what would a teak wood finish look like if it was designed today, with today’s materials and today’s understanding of how UV radiation, moisture, and temperature cycling attack wood at a molecular level?

The answer turned out to be more interesting than I expected.

The nano-ceramic silicon dioxide technology protecting automotive clear coats and aerospace surfaces had never been properly applied to outdoor wood. The professional-grade Tinuvin HALS UV stabilizers that industrial coatings rely on, stabilizers that regenerate during the protection cycle instead of depleting with every hour of sun exposure, weren’t in a single water-based teak finish on the market. And tung oil, which master craftspeople and boatbuilders chose for centuries specifically because it cures to a stable end state unlike linseed-based alternatives, had never been combined with a nano-ceramic, silane-bonded, HALS-stabilized water-based system.

Nobody had put it all together. So we did.

MORDAN Labs exists because premium wood deserves premium protection. A teak boat deck. An ipe outdoor dining table. A mahogany garden bench. These materials were chosen because they are beautiful, durable, and worth caring for properly. The finish protecting them should be held to the same standard.

We formulated from scratch using the best available chemistry. We made it water-based and zero VOC because there is no performance reason to use solvents anymore, that tradeoff no longer exists. We built in freeze-thaw stability because products that freeze in a storage locker or a UPS truck in January are not finished products. And we wrote a fully compliant safety data sheet that discloses every ingredient, because transparency is the baseline for a brand that asks you to trust its chemistry.

MORDAN Labs. Modern protection for timeless wood.

Because the wood deserves a formula as advanced as the craftsmanship that shaped it.
